“TOCHI-DOCHI – a place for enjoying local charms of Japan” Tokyo Station Yaesu Exit Store Offers Minami Kyushu City, Kagoshima Prefecture Special Selection Starting September 1st Reservation-only Workshops Offered September 7th and 8th!

  • Starting from Sunday, September 1, ANA X “TOCHI-DOCHI – a place for enjoying local charms of Japan” will feature popular souvenirs and local products from Minami Kyushu City, Kagoshima Prefecture.
  • Two workshops will be offered during the period: Serving Delicious Chiran Tea and Making Hojicha on Saturday, September 7 and Japanese Cotton Yarn Spinning and Friendship Bracelet Making on Sunday September 8. Reservations are required.
  • These reservation-only workshops are a new initiative for TOCHI-DOCHI.

 

 ANA X Inc. (President and CEO: Shinya Kanda, Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Hereinafter ANA X) and ANA Akindo Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Yuzo Hara, Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Hereinafter ANA Akindo) will collaborate with Minami Kyushu City, Kagoshima Prefecture to offer a special selection of products from the city at ANA X “TOCHI-DOCHI – a place for enjoying local charms of Japan,” which specializes in products you can only discover in Japan’s local regions, starting from Sunday , September 1.

Minami Kyushu City is located on the southern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula, approximately a one-hour drive from Kagoshima City and Ibusuki City. Minami Kyushu City is blessed with a warm climate and abundant nature, and its vibrant agricultural industry is famous for produce such as Chiran tea and sweet potatoes.

The city is also known for its beautiful Chiran Samurai Residences, which will make you think you’ve stepped back in time to the Edo Period, the Chiran Peace Museum that poignantly conveys the importance of peace, bandpark, which the famed cartographer Ino Tadataka is said to have praised for having the most beautiful scenery in the world, and Kawanabe Buddhist Altars , a designated national traditional craft of Japan.

As part of this special collaboration, TOCHI-DOCHI will offer reservation-only workshops for the first time.
TOCHI-DOCHI has invited Marukawa Farm and the Samurai Residence Cotton Farm , experienced workshop providers in Minami Kyushu, to offer a Serving Delicious Chiran Tea and Making Hojicha Workshop on the first day and Japanese Cotton Yarn Spinning and Friendship Bracelet Making Workshop on the second day.

 TOCHI-DOCHI will continue its commitment to creating opportunities for people to learn and experience precious memories from the countryside without leaving Tokyo.

1. Serving Delicious Chiran Tea and Making Hojicha Workshop
Dates: Saturday, Sep 7: First Workshop: 11:00 to 12:30, Second Workshop: 14:00 to 15:30
Contents:
The owner, a Certified Nihoncha(Japanese Tea) Instructor will introduce Chiran tea, and provide a lecture on serving delicious tea and making hojicha at home.
Participants: Maximum 8 for each workshop
Fee: 1,500 JPY (tax included) * Cash only, paid on the day of the workshop

Workshop provider: Marukawa Farm
A farm located in Chiran, Minami Kyushu City. In addition to growing Chiran tea and other produce on its expansive farm, offers visitors a stroll on its vast tea fields and lunch featuring dishes made with Chiran tea while looking out at the vista of Mount Kaimon.

2. Japanese Cotton Yarn Spinning and Friendship Bracelet Making Workshop


Date: Sunday, Sep 8: First Workshop: 11:00 to 12:30,
Second Workshop: 14:00 to 15:30
Contents:
Use traditional tools to spin harvested Japanese cotton into yarn,
and then weave the yarn into a friendship bracelet. A meaningful workshop that allows you to experience first-hand how cotton, touched everyday in our clothes and other products, comes to be a product.
Participants: Maximum 4 for each workshop
Fee: 1,500 JPY (tax included) * Cash only, paid on the day of the workshop

Offers workshops on spinning Japanese cotton into yarn at the historic Chiran Samurai Residences in Chiran, Minami Kyushu City. Cultivates Japanese cotton on the grounds of the Chiran Samurai Residences and offers workshops on spinning Japanese cotton into yarn to convey how the clothes we wear everyday are made.
Building upon their previous experience working at an Indian apparel company, the owner not only has extensive expertise in clothing, but also offers workshops on making authentic spice curry based on their experiences in India.

Tea made in the towns of Ei, Chiran or Kawanabe in Minami Kyushu City. Features a mild, easy to drink flavor perfect for a variety of occasions.
